Learning New Innovations & Technology - GIS mapping workshop at the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark
One day GIS mapping workshop was conducted at the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark premises on 4th July
2018 under NaturenomicsTM School. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sah, Research Associate from Balipara Foundation was
the guest faculty for this event. 30 participants from Department of Geography, Tezpur College have attended
this workshop.
The central objective of the one day workshop was to provide an introduction to GIS, GPS, and data science concepts and related applications. The workshop included theory session and field survey component. The workshops drew from GIS science, GIS technology, and GIS/GPS applications for environmental health. The workshop was primarily based on lectures and active learning experiences including assignments, group tasks, field data collection, and computer exercises. The workshop was designed to enrich the participant’s data computing skills and provides hands-on experiences in GPS data collection, processing, project design, GIS mapping, geocoding, and data analysis. This is a good skill set for those who expect to work with emerging technologies in environmental safety. The students at last prepared a map of the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark campus.
