Honouring the Great Botanists of Balipara & a word of gratitude from Ranjit Barthakur
At the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum, 2016, Ranjit Barthakur, Founder Balipara Foundation, honours the great Botanists from Balipara, whose great knowledge & wisdom of Botany was gained through decades of hands on experience and without any formal education or training experience.
- Botanist Rajen Kurmi, Joint Forest Management, who has helped Forests in Assam to grow,who is now a mentor at the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark.
- Botanist Bhadra Nahak, kitchen garden expert at EHBA can create food from any soil and is the pioneer of the concept Food for Nature.
- Kamision Mili, from Mishing tribe, Baligaon village in Assam, which has been awarded Indian Green Building Council's gold rating award for being the 1st green village in Assam, has introduced us to the Mishing culture, Botany & is an authority on endemic medicinal plants.
Our great Botanists were honoured in the presence of Dr. Peter Raven, the most celebrated botanist on Earth, Dr. Kamal Bawa an inspiration and our partner to learn, instill & Implement the work of ATREE and Dr. Xu from the Kunming Institute of Botany, China.
Ranjit Barthakur, closes the ceremony with a word of gratitude to the Eastern Himalayas and everyone who made the evening come together and possible!
He also leaves us with the information on Elephant Country -www.elephantcoutry.org ,an Asian Elephant Secretariat for working together will NGOs that focus on Asian Elephant Conservation and parting thoughts for each one of us on making efforts and creating innovative solutions for the future & success of Conservation.
EHNF was a 2 day Eco-conference that brought together individuals, institutes, government bodies and ministries to speak on Asian Elephant Conservation and honour the ecological champions, who contribute to protecting the biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas. The Event took place at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati on 8th & 9th Nov'16.
