John Roberts,from Thailand's GTAEF, talks to Sarita Dasgupta about Elephant Tourism, the importance of Mahout Training and sensitizing them to the psychological and emotional needs of an Elephant and building a bond. He shares the challenges of changing the mindset of people already involved in caring and nurturing the Elephants using traditional methods to include positive reinforcement training, scientific methods and learning from experts.He believes that Elephants are Flagship species and using retired elephants for educational purposes will have far reaching positive impacts for the benefit of the Elephants and for the purpose of facilitating. EHNF was a 2 day session that brought together individuals, institutes, government bodies and ministries to speak on Asian Elephant Conservation and honour the ecological champions, who contribute to protecting the biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas. The Event took place at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati on 8th & 9th Nov'16.
