Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum 2016: Dr Khyne U Mar on Asian Elephant Conservation in Myanmar

Sarita Dasgupta in conversation with Dr Mar @ EHNF 2016

Dr. Khyne U Mar, The Elephant Lady of Myanmar, talks about legislation in Myanmar that protects the Asian Elephants as the Elephants are regarded as a National Treasure and a Protected Animal in her country. She talks about  the future of building a monitoring system in Myanmar that includes privately owned Elephants and information on its owners for the benefit of these Elephants. She believes that the future of Asian Elephants in Wild can be improved if all countries adopt better scientific and nurturing efforts and have the young generation involved to share insights and knowledge on caring for the Asian Elephant.

EHNF was a 2 day session that brought together individuals, institutes, government bodies and ministries to speak on Asian Elephant Conservation and honour the ecological champions, who contribute to protecting the biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas. The Event took place at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati on 8th & 9th Nov'16.
