His Excellency Chandrashekhar Dasgupta, India
Chandrasekhar Dasgupta’s contribution to his motherland is many. Since the year 1962, he has dedicated most of his life to the Indian Civil Services, having served as the Indian ambassador to China, Luxemburg, Belgium and the European Union. Dasgupta has always been very vocal about social, cultural and environmental issues. He had been part of the preparatory committees of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), popularly known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. He is not only a distinguished fellow of The Energy and Resources Institute(TERI) but also an incumbent member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights(CESCR) and the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change. In 2008, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhusan.
