Dr. K. K. Sarma, Assam Agricultural University, Assam, India

Dr. K K Sarma is a pioneer in anaesthetic research on elephants, standardised xylazine-ketamine and medetomidine doses on elephants which is new to science. Being a veterinarian, his role in ecology was handling of stray wild animals, disease prevention and treatment of diseased wild animals. He has rescued and treated countless wild animals. He is a decorated academician and scholar on elephant health care and conservation. His contributions for elephant health care is recognised by various national and international organisations. He believes in passing his expertise and knowledge to professionals, students and interested public by organising national and international training programmes. He is a true leader, who has motivated lot of veterinary graduates to pursue an uncommon but very important career as wildlife veterinarian. His tireless service for elephant and other wildlife for last 32 years shows his perseverance for the cause. He can be recognised as true ambassador of elephant and other wildlife conservation for his invaluable works ranging over three decades.
