The activities of the Foundation commenced in 2006. Balipara Tract & Frontier Foundation (BTFF) was registered under the Societies Act as a Non For Profit NGO on 4th July, 2007
The first project initiated was setting up of Vermiculture and Bio-pesticide units under the expertise of Jaipur based Morarka Foundation with a financial assistance of Rs. 11 Lakhs
This was followed by enrolling 1000 farmers across 50 villages from 8 diverse communitites as partners of BTFF. The objective was to understand prevailing farming techniques and challenges, and create a data bank for driving Organic and Sustainable practices
A seed distribution programme was conducted among the flood affected partner farmers in year 2007
Food Security through Organic Agriculture Practices:-
Developed integrated Organic Inputs to replace all chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides as a first step to "Sustainable Agriculture Practices'
Propagate Organic/Sustainable methods of cultivation for the staple crop in Assam
Create marketable surpluses and premium pricing through Organic Certification for the farming community
Created marketable surpluses by maximizing land usage through seasonal multi cropping.
Generate higher incomes through "exotic and premium" offerings
Premium prices demanded on account of being Organic
Food Security through Animal Husbandry:-
Created supply chain for meat and egg through setting up Mother Units in partnership with local farmers
Demonstration Breeding Unit with a capacity of 1000 birds set up
Over 4,000 birds have been reared and transacted across 50 villages
Created a supply chain of Milk and Milk based value added products
Demonstration Dairy Unit set up with 5 female cows
Maximize Livelihood and income opportunities through breeding of both local and exotic varieties
Demonstration Unit set up with three varieties of Ducks
BTFF Fishery Club set up involving 16 local fish farmers
Biodiversity Management:-
3,200 Indigenous trees of 39 varieties planted
28 varieties of Indigenous plants planted
12 varieties of Ferns and Creepers planted
17 varieties of Exotic trees and Orchids planted
BTFF team visited Tata Facility in Lonavla to understand the procedures of Mahseer breeding
6 indigenous commercial varieties and 1 exotic planted
300 Indian Teak (Sangun) planted
500 Chinese Teak (Powlonia) planted
21 varieties experimented with market linkages
Marked linkages with perfumery industry established
